PHASE I CONSTRUCTION
Phase I Park Construction
Phase I of Smale Riverfront Park—currently under construction—will include the new Moerlein Lager House microbrewry and gastropub as well as a plaza of water jets with cascades of water that drop to pools along Mehring Way. There will be a grand stairway with landings at water-filled basins, a glass-floored walkway above a lower level loggia, a shade trellis, informational and interpretive displays, and public restrooms. Also part of the design is the Jacob G. Schmidlapp Stage & Event Lawn, a promenade, and within a tree grove, a monument to Cincinnati's Civil Ware era Black Brigade, the Women's Committee Garden and a labyrinth. The park will also feature a bike mobility and visitor's center, and a section of the Ohio River Bike Trail. The Schmidlapp Stage and Event Lawn is complete; the Walnut Street Fountain and Steps as well as the Bike, Mobility and Visitors Center and the Black Brigade Monument are opening in Spring, 2012. The Labyrinth and other Phase I features are expected to be completed by Fall, 2012.
